Argh I loved his characterisation in the pilot so much more. Look at his smile! He looks so sad at the fact that everyone else is stupid. Afraid that he’s going to be hated for his intelligence rather than just being obnoxious about it to protect himself. And then he says, ‘Good old Dr Watson, I underestimated him,’ later on. And HIS SMILE WHEN JOHN CALLS HIM AN IDIOT AT THE END AKDFSJDGLDSHFGKFHGSK why couldn’t they have left that close-up shot in?!
I ADORE the pilot. I mean, yes there are some things that didn’t work, but I looooved it. The part where he pretends to be drunk and the roof top shot with John looking up at him. …The pilot was amazing.
